Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) Program

Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) Program:

A language acquisition program, also referred to as Two-Way Immersion, that provides language learning and academic instruction for native speakers of English and native speakers of another language with the goals of high academic achievement, first and second language proficiency, and cross-cultural understanding. This program begins in Kindergarten and continues to sixth grade. This program is only available at Bates Elementary School and is in the third year in implementation using the 50/50 Spanish/English model of instruction.

How to Enroll Your Child in the Dual-Language Immersion (DLI) Program:

Any student, regardless of their homes school/area of residence, can enroll in the Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Program. To enroll in this program, please follow the steps found on the New Student Enrollment page. When enrolling your child select Bates Elementary School as your home school.

How to Request the Establishment of a New Program at a School:

Parents or guardians may choose a language acquisition program that best suits their child. Schools in which the parents or guardians of 30 students or more per school or the parents or guardians of 20 students or more in any grade request a language acquisition program that is designed to provide language instruction shall be required to offer such a program to the extent possible (20 U.S.C. Section 6312[e][3][A][viii][III]); EC Section 310[a]). If an organized group of parents would like to request the establishment of a new program at a school site, please contact Nancy Vielhauer, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services, at 707-374-1700 to ask about the process or e-mail Michel Kiwan Gomez, Coordinator of EL Services at mjkiwangomez@rdusd.org to request a New Program Request form.
