About Biliteracy

Bates Elementary School is a beautiful school located in Courtland, CA. Traveling to Courtland you may enjoy viewing the neighboring vineyards, pear orchards, small farmhouses, and the beautiful Sacramento River, but it is what is happening inside the school that is most incredible.

Bates Elementary is a Dual Language Immersion school. What does that mean? That means that each day all students, TK - 6th grade, receive 50/50 instruction in both English and Spanish.

In today society, the most important gift we can provide our children is the opportunity to speak, read, and write in two languages. Students and adults with this capability have a greater number of opportunities than those who speak only one language.

Take some time to read the articles below and make the choice to enroll your son/daughter at Bates Elementary School.

2. It can give children an academic advantage.

Studies have shown that bilingual children can outperform monolingual children in a number of subject areas. The effects of bilingualism can help improve a child’s educational development, cognitive functions, social skills, literacy, and emotional skills that have positive effects for many years to come.

It also leads to a deeper appreciation of different cultures and heritages, better preparing young adults to succeed in our global economy.
